Work at Monki

Work at Monki

Meet Nicolas
The nicest guy on the planet? Quite possibly. Nicolas Vasseur has a day job. He’s a sales person in Monki’s brand new Paris store (it’s in 96 Rue de Provence, come and visit!) But for this autumn campaign he took on the role of reporter—asking questions and working the camera as if that’s all he ever does. Apart from that, of course, he modelled the Monki fashion. Why? Why not? He has a message for us: boy’s clothes, girl’s clothes: who cares? The important thing is, to express the person YOU are. We’re with you, Nicolas!

So hi, I’m Nicholas.
Yes, you may be surprised, because here I am: a man in a Monki campaign. But I don’t think fashion is made for gender rules or for telling people that they have to dress like this or like that.

Why I work at Monki
Actually, a great part of what inspires me comes from Monki. Because… you know life isn’t always all rainbow colours. But stepping into a Monki store is like becoming Alice in Wonderland or something—I know, because I work at the Monki store in Paris that opened just a few months ago. I’m here to tell you that you can't be a man and be ashamed of who you are.

I applied for a job at Monki because I read about how their clothes were made for you to express yourself. I have always looked for a place like that. It’s not always easy to fit into the community when you look the way I love to look. But right now I don’t really care about that, because I am precisely who I am.

… why I dance with the customers
And Monki just encourages me to be brave and do all these amazing things… It’s empowering, it makes me trust in my own capacity. It’s friendly because—I can tell you: with my colleagues in the store, it’s like we party like every time we work. It’s not like going to work—it’s like oh my god, this song is amazing and we just go bump bump, dancing like this in front of the customers and sometimes the customers just dance with us. It happened to me last week! There was a really great song on and I started to dance behind the till and the customer said oh, I love this song, can I dance with you, and we were both like oooh, aaah…

Nicolas + Monki = true (And Monki + Nicolas = so true too)
And, yeah that’s it. This is who I am. I’m proud to be who I am. And that’s why I’m here. I’ve always been like this. But I for a long time I couldn’t be like this. And Monki is a way for you to be who you are.

Nobody who works at Monki is like you.

We're all different, and we're all here because we've found something very personal to relate to in the Monki story - something that drives us to help spread the Monki message to girls all over the world. We're a tight-knit tribe of passionate, creative rebels, poets and dreamers who believe that work should be fun, fashion should be personal and every girl should be herself.
