March 2016 #monkistyle

Meet Rebecca

Rebecca is the first of our Team Monki store staff who joined the shoot. She’s sassy and friendly in the best possible way, and girl, does she know how to bust a move!

19 years… But most of the time, 16 yrs in my mind… Occasionally a fresh 67 year old!

Stockholm, Sweden but currently hanging out in London.

Describe your #Monkistyle in 5 words:

Denim<3, clean, experimenting, crispy, retro

Favourite song to dance too:

This question is killing me! I have to simply name three songs that always makes me wanna shake my hips;
Love is Free by Robyn & La Bagatelle Magique
Där Dit Vinden Kommer by Lorentz
Rebel Rebel by David Bowie (air guitar is a must)

Favourite hobby/pastime/chillaxing yoga pose:

I could probably lay inside with my flat mate just watching Parks and Recreation all day. If you haven't seen it - do it! Amy Poehler will soothe your soul.

Also coffee, meeting up with friends and just hanging around in Hackney are the ingredients that fulfill my spare time.  Oh, and the only yoga pose I know is ‘warrior’, I think it suits me so I'm gonna go with that one as my favourite!

Tell us a little bit about where you come from:

I was born in Stockholm, which is the capital in Sweden. It's a lively city even though it's small, I miss it as I now live in London. I used to live in a part of Stockholm called Östermalm, which is known for its beautiful architecture and for all the rich pensioners walking their pugs down the street. It's also known for the nightlife of Stockholm - take a trip to Stureplan and you’ll have the time of your life!

In five words what makes you who you are:

All of my loved ones

What do you <3 about Monki:

Monki is about finding yourself. It's about having fun! It's about experimenting. It's about seeing new things, doing the stuff your passionate about. It's about being free to feel and to just be.

Feminism is…

"The radical notion that women are people" I once read on the internet and I agree. Feminism is about confronting the problem with gender, realizing that our society is run by patriarchy and that the focus exist on men. It is about realizing this problem and then doing everything we can to fix it, and fight it. As novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie explains in her TED Talk; ‘Feminist: a person who believes in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes.’

Best advice you’ve ever been given:

If you don't like it, change it!

Fave thing about Monki's Spring '16 collection:

Loving the colours! Green, black, white and yellow. Also loving the mixture of influence from both the ‘70s and the ‘90s. Fave, fave, fave!
