February 2015 Monki Friends

Meet Mapei

Mapei is a singer, rapper, artist and dreamer who lives to create music that brings people together. #Inspiring!

You’ve just released your album ‘Hey Hey’ – what was the inspiration behind it?

Happiness. I believe that we are responsible for our own happiness. So I tried to create an album of sonic positivity made up of catchy tunes!

What is your favourite thing about being an artist?

I love sharing my soul and bringing people together.

Do you have any advice for young artists?

Some days it can be really hard to remember where you want to be. But don’t let that get you down – create moodboards to remind yourself of your goals and help you to get back on track.

What kind of qualities do you think a typical Monki girl has?

She’s a strong girl who knows herself, she’s not afraid to try out something new. She’s creative and open and worldly.

What is #monkistyle to you?

#monkistyle is vibrant and colourful. It’s on the pulse with what is going on in the world today but is still fun and loving.

What are you most proud of?

I’m really proud of “Don’t Wait”. It’s a really great tune, the words are right, my voice sounds like me and it’s a song about my friends.

Ikmo patches

I really loved these jeans because I could wear them anywhere: on a date, at a photo-shoot, on stage. And they’re so comfortable!

Denim flight suit

This reminded me of R’n’B greats like TLC or Aaliyah. I’d love to pay homage to them by wearing it in a music video with a pair of heels.

Pim printed-tee

It is cool and bold and looks so great worn with the denim flight suit.
