Periods are cool. Period.
We think it's time to end shame and stigma around such a normal bodily function and to start acting like people who understand that periods are a part of life. Period.
Together with our long-time partner Lunette, we’ve launched reusable period products like the menstrual cup and the period panties. Because everyone should have access to safe and comfortable menstrual care <3
Used on its own, these velvety soft black panties can handle light to medium flow (= 25 ml), but to be specific, this means:
❤️ Up to 3 tampons worth of liquid
❤️ One small menstrual cup
On heavier days, pair these babies with your Monki x Lunette menstrual cup and you’re ready to take on the day (even if that means sitting on the couch watching your favourite shows)!
Psst — while these are called period panties, you can also wear them any other day of your cycle (to protect from discharge & incontinence, for example). But hey, feel free to wear them whenever you want, really!
It may seem like a lot to pay for a pair of undies, but remember, these are not just any regular briefs! You can use them for up to 8 hours straight (that means you can wear them even while you’re asleep!) and can be tossed in the washing machine.
It’s recommended to wash the period panties at 40° C to maintain the quality, but they can also handle the occasional 60° C wash. Hang them to dry as you would your regular undies. But don’t put them in the dryer — this may affect the fabric layer that prevents leakage!
❤️ Slim elasticated waistband.
❤️ High gusset and wide waist panel for supportive co verage.
❤️ High-quality Oeko-tex 100 materials.
❤️ No extra chemical additives used in the production of the fabric.
❤️ Organic cotton – soft & comfy for your vulva while wicking away moisture, fast! Because we know how uncomfortably sweaty it can get down there.
❤️ Highly absorbent inner layers to keep the liquid in.
❤️ Laminated polyester to prevent leakage — so you can wear those light-coloured outfits with confidence.
❤️ Made in the EU.
This could be your period's new best friend - if you're ready for it. We know periods are messy and painful and let's be honest, completely personal. We also believe that there is no wrong way to menstruate. But we just learned about the cup which is an amazing alternative to tampons and pads and we think that if you want a change, then read on and we'll tell you why this little silicone thing could be your period's new best friend - if you're ready for it.
Already feel like ‘hey, this is something I definitely want to try’?
No problem, we’ve got you covered.
❤️ Size 1: Spotting to light bleeding
❤️ Size 2: Moderate to heavy bleeding
Find a position that feels good – some prefer to squat, others stand with one foot on the toilet seat. While keeping the cup folded, insert into the vagina rim first.
When popped in, push it gently upwards until it feels in place. With the help of ur forefinger, feel alongside the cup to ensure that it’s properly unfolded. When the end of the cup’s stem reaches ur vaginal opening – ur done!
So the thing about pads and tampons is that they actually generate a lot of waste. The cup is made of medical silicone, it lasts up to 10 years and when you're done, you burn it. Toxic emission free.
Great for sports
Just because you’re on your period doesn’t mean you want to stop your exercise routine, right? Well, whether you're running, swimming, yoga-ing or dancing, the cup will stay put. Worry free exercise.
It might seem like a lot of money at first. And it doesn't feel so great to have to pay for having a period, but this is a once every several years payment. Kind of worth it in our eyes.
Of course this is personal but in general, you can wear the cup for up to 12 hours. That's only twice a day. Which is amazing in our eyes.
The cup isn't just kind on the environment and on your wallet. It's also kind on your vagina. Made of 100% medical grade silicone, it’s free from chemicals and contains NO harmful absorbency gels, additives, toxins, pesticides, bleaches or perfumes.
No more strings, no more pads. The cup is invisible and so comfortable you might find yourself forgetting it’s there.
Monki × The Cup
There are actually things you can do today that matters. Did you for example know that The Cup helps girls stay in school?
Our belief is that the more people who know about the cup and hopefully use it, the easier it will be for us/you to help millions of girls in need. As the cup market grows it will free money for the cup users and it will hopefully make cups cheaper and the companies selling them will be able to be more generous and help our cause. We have already seen great results with thousands of girls we've trained in the Kibera slum in Nairobi, Kenya. The girls who have gone through the specially designed Cup program and who have chosen to start using the cup have not missed a day of school since, feel healthier, can participate in sports, be allowed to play, and feel free.
