Monki <3 Festivals Kira Stachowitsch
Meet Kira, a Berlin based creative and co-founder of INDIE and Material Girl magazines. She’ll Monki’s eyes and ears at Berlin’s Melt festival – get her festival tips here!
What are your festival staples?
Sunblock and sunglasses. These are super important when head at night because you tend to forget you'll be raving till noon the next day!
What are your top 3 festival tips?
If you camp out for three days don't forget to buy fruit and vegetables in advance, you'll be so happy getting a break from festival food. Check out acts you wouldn't necessarily have on your list – they might surprise you live. And don't wear dungarees: they really don't go well with portaloos!
Who are you looking forward to seeing most this year?
There's this amazing young singer I already heard live in Berlin. Her name is Aurora and she's incredibly talented. Even Katy Perry recently tweeted about her!
What are you festival wardrobe staples?
Layers and layers, rainproof jackets, baseball caps and boots that go well with mud. It's a proper outdoor experience so do it justice with some camping-dad-like preparation.
What do you like most about summer?
Cute girls in summer dresses and short shorts, beer and BBQ and the sun rising above a great outdoor party.
Where is the best ice-cream place in the city?
My favourite is definitely the salty peanut butter ice-cream sandwich by Zwei Dicke Bären who you can find at Street Food Thursday.
What is your favourite festival memory/story?
Crazy fun times with my wonderful friend Daliah at Melt! going with the flow and neglecting all things “grown-up”. And meeting Chloe Norgaard dancing in the crowd and spending the rest of the night running around together with her gang.
What do you dance to?
Pop, hip-hop and ‘90s R’n’B.
What is your guiltiest music pleasure?
There's never a reason to be “cool” about music. The poppier the better. I'm a sucker for some Taylor Swift.
Describe this festival in 3 words.
Hello sleepless floor.
What are you most looking forward to at this festival?
Having some of my best friends from my hometown Vienna come and join the fun!
What/ who has been the best act you’ve seen at a festival?
A Melt! highlight was when Mykki Blanco who brought his friend, artist Boychild for a performance. And being front row at Azealia Banks was great!
Have you ever been star struck? If so, who was it?
Most recently I was really excited to stand next to Katy Perry for 30 seconds to take a picture together (while wearing Monki of course)!
