In a world of filters and retouching apps knowing what’s real and what isn’t can be almost impossible. When we retouch pictures, we try to stay true to the identity of the person we’re working with. We like to keep scars, moles, cellulites and all the small, but beautiful things that make us into the stunning, unique humans that we are. Sometimes we’ll remove a pimple, some mascara guck or stray hairs – things that are there one day and gone the next. But we never EVER retouch or reshape bodies.
This work is made a whole lot easier by the fact that we have amazing photographers, fantastic hair and make up people and – of course – picture perfect light.
Even if we try to retouch as little as possible we’ll keep doing some tricks, like removing an unfortunate road sign, making sure that no one is blinking in a group shot or removing a crease or two from a dress. Occasionally we retouch our products to make sure that the colours are right and that the textures look the way they ought to.
Monki was born from a desire to create a new kind of fashion experience – a brave, friendly and empowering place for young women – and since the very first day we’ve tried our best to stay true to that vision. To us being inclusive isn’t a trend or something to brag about: it’s the only way forward. We’re proud of the way we built a brand that shows beauty in many different forms, and we’ll keep on trying our best to show as many types of people as we can.
When we work with models and talents we make sure that they get safe transport to and from location, that they work a maximum of ten hours (with breaks) and that they have healthy snacks and food on set. We make sure that the girls have a place to change and we ALWAYS inform them beforehand if it’s an underwear or swimsuit shoot or if the garments are made from a sheer or see-through fabric. And we never serve any alcohol on set.
Being on a Monki shoot should be a fun, safe and comfortable experience. And regardless of external partners, like production companies, casting agents or photographers, we’re the ones that have to make sure of that.
Monki has a variety of different fits, shapes and silhouettes. We like tight, figure hugging styles, and we love billowing, flowy, airy, twirl friendly and loose-fitting garments. That’s just who we are. We love to play with proportions and designs which means that we have everything from oversized silhouettes to tight fits and casual shapes.
Even if we’re not keen on talking sizes, they can be a useful tool. Imagine shopping online without them. Currently we cater for sizes between XXS and XL, which is the same as EUR 32–48, and we follow European standard sizes.
When we re-size our designs from sample size, we change the scale. That means that the design of our garments stays the same regardless of size.
